Bull Dogs, Collages & Classes, Oh My!

Hello Everyone!!!

So many exciting things going on, woweeee!!!

Annie reduced

Well, the best, of course, is becoming a mom all over again.  Annie was the best Valentine’s gift ever.  She’s about 3 years old and was rescued about a year ago by For the Love of Pits.  After six meetups with Rachel, Annie’s amazing foster mom, I was able to bring her home permanently.  Annie is a major love bug.  She just loves everyone she meets!!!  People that is — she was rescued from a fighting ring in Mississippi so understandably has reactivity issues with dogs.  And she’s not that fond of cats . . . or skunks . . . or chipmunks . . . or squirrels.  But she sure loves people and is just an absolute joy!!!  Bull dogs get such a bad rap — they are a wonderful, loving, loyal dog.  If you’re ever considering adopting, I highly recommend For the Love of Pits — they go above and beyond to work with rescued dogs and then to match with the perfect owner.

Thank you Shana and Rachel!!!

zendalaMy online Zentangle classes are going great.  Have had lots of wonderful feedback.  They’re very reasonably priced ($14.95 each) and you have access for an entire year, 24 hours a day.  And you don’t have to get dressed . . . or drive . . . or comb your hair!  Well, I didn’t when I was making them!

Please stop by and try one of the classes (or two or three). They’re fun!!!  And funny!!!  (to clarify, the classes are fun and I’m funny)

And chock full of great Zentangle info!

Photography & Collage

As many of you know, I am back in the photography business.

http://www.ellendarbyphotography.com

I had a studio in Chagrin Falls (The Country Photographer) about thirty years ago and have been shooting on and off since then.  Also spent several years doing video production and teaching video editing.  Another one of my passions is creating collages in Photoshop.  I absolutely love, love, love collecting the photos and creating a piece of art for people to give as gifts or frame and hang in their homes.

Collages make a wonderful gift for a friend or family member.  They are great for sports teams, bridal gifts, special remembrances.

Rampe

You can incorporate photos, poetry, song lyrics, photos of precious belongings, etc.

Folio Academy

Some of you know that I explore other forms of art in addition to Zentangle.  My next challenge is to illustrate a children’s book.  I took some amazing online digital painting classes with Will Terry, an absolutely wonderful illustrator.  Besides being a great teacher, he’s really, really nice, very modest and very generous with his knowledge.  Anyway, I wanted to pass along the address for Folio Academy, where he teaches classes under the “Digital” section.  I’ve only taken Will’s classes so cannot give a review for any of the other classes listed.  But Will ROCKS!

Tangle Bee West info (dates listed above):

The Carlyle is 12900 Lake Ave., Lakewood 44107.  The driveway off Lake is shared with the Winton Place. Enter the driveway, turn left to the Carlyle. The entrance and lobby are in the middle of the west side of the building. There may be parking just in front of the building on the west (left) side of the building but it is a gamble. The alternative is to turn left into the lower parking lot on the west side of the building. There is a stairway up to the lobby level in about the center of that lower lot.

To get in:

1-One of our group may be waiting to let you in

OR

2-Press my apartment 1422 and CALL (I can let you into the building from wherever I am using my cell) (or find 1422 in the list or Montgomery in the list after you’ve scrolled through all the apartment #s and all the other last names).

OR

3-Buzz the reception person if they don’t buzz you in. Say the code word, “Tangle Bee!”

Go towards the reception desk, turn left, then turn left again. The elevators will be on your right. Press down and take any elevator to the SB (Sea Breeze!) level. Follow the signs to The Conference Room. It will be on your left.

E-MAIL FROM A TANGLER:

Jan Dierringer was in my very first Zentangle 101 class at The Alcazar back in March.  I just received a very cool e-mail from her and would like to share a snippet of the e-mail with everyone:

“Hi Ellen,

Just wanted to share with you my latest obsession. I bought porcelain pens from pebeo online and you can draw on dishes etc. let it dry for 24 hrs. bake in the oven on 300 for 30 min.’s and it’s permanent. I’ve tried scrubbing it off and running through the dishwasher and it stays on. So fun to draw zentangle designs on ceramic or porcelain dishes etc. I’m getting a head start on Xmas gifts. Please share with the girls as I know they would enjoy doing this too!

If anyone has any questions about my latest obsession please go ahead and give them my email address. I’d be happy to answer any questions.”

 jdieringer@sbcglobal.net

Note:  I checked at both art stores (Utrecht and Prizm) and did not find these pens so, as Jann suggested, if you are interested, looks like they must be purchased on line.  Thanks again Jann!!!

GOT SKYPE????

Do you live too far away to take a class on the east or west side of Cleveland?  Do you live on the other side of the world?  Not a problem!!!  We can do a Zentangle class online with Skype from the convenience of your home!!!  Just e-mail me (ellendarby@gmail.com), and we can make arrangements!!!

If you don’t have Skype yet, it’s a free download and free to use.

Click Here to sign up for a free Skype account.

All you need is a computer with a video camera built in (most computers have them these days) or you can purchase a video camera inexpensively to connect to your computer.
